Spring semester finds USF SLIS actively engaged

In spite of the chilly weather, spring has arrived to USF SLIS! The beginning of the new 2010 Spring Semester found USF SLIS working really hard! Besides dealing with the new Blackboard 9 platform and setting up the courses, some of our faculty members are involved in professional events that are taking place this week.

ALISE (Association for Library and Information Science Education) is a non-profit organization that serves as the intellectual home of university faculty in graduate programs in library and information science in North America.

ALISE’s 2010 Annual Conference, “Creating a Culture of Collaboration,” takes place in Boston from Jan.12th to Jan.15th. USF School of Library and Information Science’s director, Dr. James Andrews, Dr. Vicki Gregory, and Dr. JungWon Yoon are attending this event.

The American Library Association’s 2010 Midwinter Meeting also takes place in Boston between Jan. 15th and Jan.19th. The Midwinter Meeting is primarily a business meeting, for handling the business and planning of the organization and its different divisions, roundtables, or committees.

Some of the faculty involved in different ALA organizations are participating at the Midwinter Meeting in Boston. Dr. Gregory is Chair of the Committee on Accreditation (COA) and Dr. Cora Dunkley serves on the Coretta Scott King Awards Committee. Dr. Henrietta Smith will serve once more on the selection committee of the Caldecott Award.

USF SLIS wishes our faculty safe travels and value their professional involvement, which helps to enrich our program.
