Dr. John M. Budd is 20th Anniversary Alice G. Smith Lecturer

Beginning in 1989, the USF LIS community has hosted an annual Alice G. Smith Lecture. The year’s keynote speaker for the 20th Anniversary of the series is Dr. John M. Budd of The University of Missouri.  Dr. Budd received his M.L.S. from Louisiana State University and later his PhD from The University of North Carolina. He is the author of Self-Examination: The Present and Future of Librarianship, which evaluates the role of the library and the librarian amidst current societal changes (in terms of ethics, policy issues, etc.) and The Changing Academic Library: Operations, Cultures, Environments.  Chicago: ACRL, Publications in Librarianship, 2005. Dr. Budd is the winner of the 2002 Highsmith Library Literature award for his book,  Knowledge and Knowing in Library and Information Science. He is Past-President of Beta Phi Mu, the library and information studies honor society.
